Women, Peace and Security: A Policy Agenda for Implementation

A great success was noted by the conference organized by the UNESCO Chair: Women, Peace, and Security: «Building Opportunities and Resilience through Education and Research», which was held in the Conference Room of the University of Macedonia.
The keynote speaker of the event was H.E. Ambassador Mark Allen, Ambassador of Canada to Greece, who presented Canada’s experience in promoting the Women, Peace and Security agenda worldwide. Significant were the speakers’ remarks on the need to move on from the declarations in the official documents and enter the process of changing attitudes and practices towards promoting more participatory action by men and women in dealing with emergencies, or even the greatest and more effective protection for victims of violence against men and women.
At the conference, there was also a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who explained the process the state has launched in the last year to draft the National Action Plan for Women, Peace, and Security.
The discussion that followed with the students highlighted the importance of women’s participation and their protection throughout the whole range of armed conflict management concerning the implementation of the principle of gender equality and the protection of fundamental rights.
