The International High Level Conference entitled “Contemporary Perspectives in the Implementation of Women, Peace and Security Agenda”, aimed to record, evaluate and open the debate in Greece on the implementation of the global policy agenda “Women, Peace and Security”.
The conference has achieved its goal, given the wide participation of specialized speakers, senior representatives of major regional international organizations, like the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), but also national representatives from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cyprus Equality Committee. At the same time, a significant number of expert analysts, officials and academics involved with the specific topic gave lectures to a wide audience of academics, students and civilians. The networking provided through the conference signaled a significant added value for the Chair and the University of Macedonia, as the Chair was associated with the drafting and implementation of the National Action Plans of Greece and Cyprus.
The Conference was the beginning of the establishment of a national network of experts for the forthcoming establishment of the Greek Action Plan under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its implementation. In addition, through its collaboration with the Inter-Disciplinary Studies Section of the International Studies Association, the conference secured a widespread international visibility.
